About "Sweet Cakes"

Welcome to the "Sweet Cakes" blog/website. Jaime and Mia started doing cakes in 2009 with fun in mind and now have started an online business (Primarily Bakersfield Area) due to the interest of many of you and the joy that comes from making them. So thank you! We hope that as you continue to come to our blog that you can see some of our cakes and be a future customer.

Our cakes are one of a kind. We pride ourselves in making each one of them from scratch. A lot of careful planning goes into each and every one of them. We do cakes for weddings, baby showers, birthdays, bachelorette parties, office parties, anniversaries and what ever else you can imagine. You tell us what you want and we will do our best to create that special cake for you.

Since no two cakes are ever the same, prices will vary.

A personal consultation with you will help us find out exactly the look and style you want, for the price you want. Whether you have a mental picture or found a picture online that you want us to take ideas from, we will try to explore what you want in your cake so you can get the best one for you. Some people don't even know where to begin and we can also help you with ideas to design the perfect cake for your needs.

Some things to think about when pricing and designing a cake whether from us or some where else:
  • We do mostly a fondant type cake.Fondant cakes cost more than regular iced cakes. Fondant will give you a completely smooth appearance. Fondant can be shaded to match a specific color.
  • Icing and fondant flowers take time to make, therefore the more of these that you have, the higher the cost. In general, the more icing on top of your base cake, the higher the cost.
  • Inexpensive ways of dressing up a cake include silk flowers, ribbons, beads, or other non-food material. These methods are frequently used with more contemporary and stylish cakes.
  • A cake, no matter how much or little is used to decorate it with, will cost a certain price to actually make, so a simple cake doesn't necessarily mean a "cheap" cake. It is important to make it clear to the person making your cake what your budget is, so that we, or they, may show you all the options for your price range.
  • Cake preparation can take up to a week or two, depending on the specific decorations, so give the cake designer plenty of time to prepare.
  • If you are expecting a large crowd, but do not want to spend a fortune on a large cake, sheet cakes are a more inexpensive option. Order a standard sized 3 tier cake and serve from it and additional sheet cakes. A sheet cake will serve approximately 80 people.
  • Our Delivery fee for anywhere in Bakersfield and the surrounding areas of Kern county are $25.00. Anything greater than that will be the cost of gas round-trip. An estimation will be made based on current prices and receipts will be provided upon request.




Consultations

Before scheduling a consultation with us, think about some of these things to talk about.

  • How many guests you expect - this determines the size of cake you will need.
  • Date, time, and address of reception or party - We need to know in advance when we are expected to arrive, and if there will be any scheduling conflicts with other appointments we may have.
  • Your budget- We will try work with within your budget for your cake but also please note when you buy from us you will be getting a high quality cake so expect to pay for quality.
  • An idea of what kind of design you would like. If you have pictures, color samples, and/or invitations, this will help us to better assist you.
  • Flavors - We do all the basic flavors of cakes including: Chocolate, white, yellow, banana, strawberry, lemon, pineapple, carrot, spice champagne and red velvet. But we are not limited to just those flavors and are willing to make any other flavor you want.
  • Real, silk or gum paste icing - It is important that we know what types of flowers you want on your cake, as this determines where they will come from.
  • Have a check ready when you arrive, because if you confirm a date with us, we will need 50% of your payment up front.
  • Any special circumstances you might have, such as food allergies, unusual location, etc.
